Should your kids be dancing?

The reason I encourage dance as a hobby for parents of children is because it offers children many skills that can help them at school and in life in general.

Dancing requires concentration and hard work from kids in order to learn. In return it provides them with greater self confidence, health and fitness and many social skills. There aren’t that many activities for children that will provide such a wide variety of skills for them.

It is possible for shy kids to come out of their shells and interact with others more. After all dancing is a social activity and many schools do shows where they’ll have to learn to work well in a team too.

I also think that dancing gives children discipline due to the effort required. This applies to all kinds of dance and children realise the rewards of hard work and focus. This is of course something that has wide application and can help them enormously in school once they grasp the significance of hard work.

As an activity in its own right, dancing is fun. You need to be sure that it’s right for your own children but those that take to it will find that it’s something they enjoy going to. They’ll make friends there that they’ll enjoy seeing and learning with.

There is a great need for children to take part in activities outside of school and dancing is a great choice. What’s good is that it is accessible and there are lots of places that teach it so you’ll be able to find somewhere for your kids pretty easily.

Like other things see if you can get a recommendation from other parents. Go and visit the school and ask any questions that you or your son/ daughter may have to ensure that you pick a suitable dance school.
